Sacramento California Attractions

California State Railroad Museum

The California State Railroad Museum is located in Old Sacramento at Second and I Streets. Throughout the year the museum offers a variety of events and attractions suitable for all ages. Hours of operation are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily (closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day). Tickets are sold until 4:30 p.m. Admission is for adults; children ages 16 and under are free. California Military Museum

The California Military Museum is located at 1119 Second Street in Old Sacramento. Hours of operation are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday. Admission is for adults, .50 for seniors, and for children 10-17. A special admission price of for military and dependents with ID Card. Children 10 and under are free. The museum is closed on Mondays, except when Armed Forces Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day and Veterans Day fall on a Monday. The museum is also closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Easter.

Attractions include interactive exhibits which highlight the accomplishments and history of California's volunteer military. Historical photos, equipment and documents are also on display. For more info call (916) 442-2883.

The Crest Theater

Recently restored to its glittery 1940s appearance, the Crest Theatre has been home to vaudeville, motion pictures, live dramatic performances, symphonies and private events since 1912.

The Crest Theatre is located at 1013 K Street on the K Street mall (between 10th and 11th streets). General admission is .50. Seniors, children and matinees are (these prices apply to movies only, prices for plays are available on their site). The Crocker Art Museum

Visit the first public art museum of the West! The Crocker prides itself on "being the leading arts institution of the Sacramento Valley and collects, preserves, exhibits, and interprets outstanding works of art that are the product of human ingenuity and creativity."

Hours of operation are Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., closed Mondays and major holidays. Admission prices are for students (with valid ID), for ages 18 and over, for seniors 65+, and ages 6 and under are admitted free. The Crocker is located at 216 O Street (between 2nd and 3rd on "O" Street in downtown Sacramento). For more info, call (916) 264-5423.

Fairytale Town

Fairytale Town is a wonderful place just for kids (and kids at heart!) that promotes imagination, creativity, and education. Children come to play, learn, and participate in fun learning and artistic activities in a fantasy-like setting designed to engage their imaginations. Playground sets with their imaginative slides and climbing structures put children in the midst of classic children's stories and fables.

They're located in scenic William Land Park, just north of the intersection of Sutterville Road and Land Park Drive. Fairytale Town is home to a friendly menagerie of animals from the pages of favorite children's stories.

Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily March through September. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily October through December. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekends only January and February. Admission: Weekdays: .75 adult, .50 children 3-12 years, free for children under 3. Weekends: .50 adult, .25 children 3-12 years, free for children under 3. Towe Auto Museum

The Towe Auto Museum not only houses an eclectic and constantly changing collection of about 160 cars, it also offers Sunday organ concerts and classic movies, and is a much sought-after venue for private social events. The Museum is located on Front Street just south of Old Sacramento.

Golden State Museum

The Golden State Museum is a state-of-the-art interactive museum, with exhibits divided into four themed galleries—The Place, The People, The Politics and The Promise. Hours of operation are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from Noon to 5 p.m. The Museum is closed on Mondays and major holidays. Admission prices are as follows: adults, seniors, .50 children 6-13, children 5 and under are free. For more info call (916) 653-7524.

"Old Town" Sacramento

Old Sacramento is a unique blend of modern day technology with yesterday's architecture. Throughout the 28-acre State Historic Park, one can find exquisite dining, one-of-a-kind shops, interesting museums, as well as lodging on the Delta King (a beautifully restored paddleboat which has been converted to an upscale hotel). Old Sacramento is located downtown and is convenient to reach by all freeways. From any direction take Interstate 5 to the J Street exit and follow the signs.

Sacramento Zoo

The mission of the Sacramento Zoological Society is to inspire appreciation, understanding and respect for all living things through stimulating education, wholesome recreation and innovative species management.

The zoo is located in William Land Park at Land Park Drive and Sutterville Road. Hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily except Christmas and Thanksgiving—June 1 through Labor Day, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission: Adults, .50 weekdays and weekends and holidays; ages 3-12, .75 weekdays and .25 weekends and holidays; ages 2 and under, free. ARCO Arena

ARCO Arena is home to the Sacramento Kings, Sacramento Knights and Sacramento Monarchs, as well as numerous concerts, family shows (such as Disney On Ice) and conventions. For event information, call (916) 928-6900.
